William Banting drank multiple times a day and drank (assumedly) baking soda water or calcium carbonate. Yet these things are never discussed in the modern keto conversation. I know baking soda helps me with fasting, but is it just because it's an electrolyte? I asked Gary Taubes about the alcohol aspect of Banting and he said epigenetics means that it would probably be riskier to copy Banting's way of eating today. What do you think?
Peter spoke a lot about squats, deadlifts and other compound exercises in his recent AMA. I’ve yet to hear him talk about how many of those types of exercises he prescribes for his older patients. A lot of what I’ve read and seen, including from experts like Stu McGill, is that those exercises aren’t advisable for most older folks because of the damage they can do the back and joints. Does Peter anticipate continuing with them into his 50s and beyond? Does Beth have an opinion about this?
Please elaborate on your understanding that insulin getting into cells isn’t a “too much fat in the cells already” issue. The no-fat vegan diet espouses that insulin resistance comes from any fat that you eat. Yet as I eat carbohydrates - even “healthy” ones like fruits, vegetables, and grains my blood glucose rises well above 140. As I also have high cholesterol a carnivorous diet seems a terrible idea as well.
