The effects of different modalities of exercise to cognitive performance, mood, and mental health

What are the effects of different modalities of exercise to cognitive performance, mood, and mental health? Are there good RCTs or meta-analyses and solid evidence of benefits of exercise in this area. I've read "Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain" book by John Ratey, but I didn't read it through the lense of discounting possible confouding factors and biases. The book does give a super optimistic view on the topic. (I didn't find AMAs or Podcast episodes that directly answered these questions. If there are such, I'm sure you'll point me/us to those.)

Plant- vs animal-based bodybuilding and long-term health

Are the potential benefits of plant-base vs. animal-based diets with respect to lesser activation of anabolic pathways and the associated risks to long-term health more or less moot if a plant-based diet is used for bodybuilding purposes? I.e. is there anything about getting amino acids from plants that confers less risk even for an equivalent amount of anabolism?

Deep Dive on Lung Health esp. Asthma

Cough-Varian asthma has been kicking my ass since last fall and now that I have just got omicron it is much worse. I'm finding it very difficult to manage, especially in the winter months in Canada. I would love if you could do a deep dive on lung health. My basic goal #1 for my centurion olympics is to be able to breath.

Exogenous lipase and cholesterol

Hi there, In your article, “The Straight Dope on Cholesterol: Part 1”, you mention that the majority of the cholesterol we eat isn’t absorbed in the digestive tract because it is esterified. You then mention that it can be de-esterified by pancreatic lipases. It’s common in the functional medicine world to recommend digestive enzyme supplements to someone struggling with IBS. Those supplements often contain lipase. Could prolonged supplementation of this kind increase the cholesterol that is absorbed and therefore result in higher cholesterol overall for an individual? Thanks!

Protein intake for women

Hi Peter, you touched on briefly in you last AMA that it didn’t matter when protein was consumed during the day, as long as it was an adequate amount. According to Dr. Stacy Sims, for women it’s important to consume protein within 30-45 mins of a workout, especially if they’re in peri-menopause/menopause with declining oestrogen levels. For any further protein topics, would you be able to go deeper on the protein requirement differences between men/women/life stages/hormone stages? Thanks so much
