I'm wondering whether products containing MCTs should be avoided while on a diet that consists of moderate carb intake (thinking: carbs (glucose+insulin) + MCTs (ketones) = harmful when both present in your body)? If so, should avoidance be absolute, or is it dose dependent? For example, while consuming carbs, would 1-2 grams of mixed MCTs in a coffee creamer be equally bad as adding 15g of C8 into a drink? Thanks!
Murray Rosenthal here. As I mentioned previously, I helped invent the first commercial HbA1c test. For the last 30+ years, I have been mildly interested in the 1,5-Anhydroglucitol (1,5-AG) lab test (tradename Glycomark). For individuals who maintain their dietary habits, I believe that the 1,5-AG test gives you an indication of area-under-the-curve for glucose levels. Your last AMA podcast talked about CGMs and I think that is the best way to measure glucose excursions. However, for those people that can't afford a CGM, what about tracking 1,5-AG levels over time? Thus, HbA1c tracking gives you an idea of average blood glucose and 1,5-AG gives you an idea of average glucose excursions post-prandially. What do you think?
