Thank you for the AMA on blood glucose. I’m left with more questions than answers though and will give it a second listen. To start, given that lower is better, why does Peter do his zone 2 fasted? I find if I start my zone 2 about 20 minutes after a moderate breakfast, I completely avoid any blood sugar increase. What am I missing?
My health insurance (Kaiser) will pay for a DEXA scan when I turn 70 but they only look at bone density. Do you know of any service where I can take my DEXA scan that will provide an interpretation of my body composition? Thank you for the information you gave on body composition. Tong
On balance, which would Peter rather see on his CGM app: having one blood glucose peak of 170+ mg/dL or two peaks of, say, 130-140 mg/dL? Numbers are made up, but just wondering whether we can say either the frequency or magnitude of the peaks is worse in isolation.
Peter -- I train regularly, about 9-12 hours a week swimming biking, running as well as yoga / weights. I'm also too big to do this at 6'4" ~195 lbs so i torch a lot of calories. On my longer rides / runs I have started to really use Maurten's 320 drink more than gels for calories. However last year your podcast on sugary drinks leading directly to cancer has really bothered me ever since I listened. What do you recommend for triathlete or marathon fueling? Do you believe drinks like Maurten's or Skratch or gels like Gu are cancer risks? Other health risks? Understanding your swim and bike days are done, what would you use and why? Thanks!
