Longevity podcast? Really? How about getting some centenarians on here (or better, some supercentenarians). Ask them their thoughts on quality of life in old age. Is it worthwhile? What do they consider the best things in life. . . . Also, more people who have lived through (and overcome) tragedy. . . . Finally, more of Peter’s friends because those are often hilarious and insightful.
Are there any studies showing a decrease in all cause mortality with PCSK9 inhibitors? My PCP tells me there's aren't. I understand your point about treating early to prevent ASCVD from developing in the first place, but when you're older (I'm 65), has the horse effectively left the barn, and lowering LDL is too late? Thanks for all you do, loved Outlive. Have gifted half a dozen copies already.
Hi Dr. Attia, This researcher seems to make a compelling case that LDL is not the cause of CVD and that statins offer little benefit - a statin denier, oh my! Like you, he appears to be data-driven citing multiple studies. I did read your open-minded assessment of one study discounting LDL that you ultimately tore down. Take a look at the studies presented here where he purposely uses FH to make his case. If you cannot similarly tear down his presentation, I would suggest you interview him. Thank you. https://youtu.be/i6za3BYF3e4
Hi Peter, I know. you believe in getting LDL lower a large Korean study showed All Cause Mortality was lowest with a TC around 240 (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-018-38461-y) and a Danish study found ACM lowest with LDL around 135 (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7722479/) .. these seem to contradict your belief that the lower the LDL the better. Would be interested in. your thoughts.
