Function and benefits of ozempic

Hi Peter you mentioned doing an ama on ozempic. My doctor said it works for weight loss on more than one pathway (not just by reducing appetite). Can you please explain what this means? The doctor also mentioned cardiovascular benefits. What are they? I am 62. Once I reach a weight loss goal can/should I stay on this drug for a lifetime (perhaps at a lower dose)? Thank you very much.

What is your take on the 2019 paper "Total Cholesterol and All Cause Mortality..." by Sang-Wook Yi?

I have heard you talk about lowering apoB as much as possible. In this paper, they found a "U" shaped curve for total cholesterol when dealing with all cause mortality. Can you explain this? Thank you so much for all that you do!

I'm fit, but have sky-high lactate levels in Zone 2

I have been doing primarily Zone 2 workouts for about 6 months since joining this site. I have been targeting 140 bpm heart rate based on nose breathing, conversational pace, and 78% of max heart rate approximations, all of which seem to converge on this 135-140 bpm pace. I can pretty easily hold this pace for ~45 minutes, and definitely could hold longer if needed. I finally purchased a lactate meter and after several data points, measure between 7 and 9 mmol after those workouts. So I backed off the intensity to find my aerobic threshold, but found that my lactate spikes to 5+ after just a preposterously easy warm up. We're talking like 100-110 bpm heart rate and 75-100 watts on the Peloton for 10-15 minutes. By all accounts I'm in good shape, but my lactate is out of control. My resting lactate is normal: ranging from 0.7 to 1.4 over a few measurements. But I can't understand how the minute I start moving, my lactate spirals out of control. I have been doing some research on Aerobic Deficiency Syndrome. Any other theories/advice as to what could be going on? I come from a HIIT/Crossfit background prior to July 2022.

Psychedelics and Neurodegeneration

Not really a question but an observation. Listening to the fantastic interview with Kellyann I couldn't help think a great study for your psychedelics research friends would be looking at regular psychedelic users and their risk as a group for neurodegenerative disease. If the principle "you don't use it you lose it" applies, then I say a good hypothesis to test is whether these folks have better outcomes compared to their peers. I say that not as president of this idea, but I'm also a client. To reform as a question - do you know of any research/observational study being done here?

Strength exercises for parents in their 60s

It’s clear from your podcast eps that strength training is especially important for older generations. My parents who’re in their 60s are endurance-focused individuals that swim almost every day for 1.5 hours. I want to introduce some strength exercises into their routines like lower body and grip strength exercises. What principles and specific exercises would you recommend?
