Comment on osteoporosis AMA

Couple of references for you. Only reference that I know of demonstrating bone gain after menopause from a weight training regimen: https://asbmr.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/jbmr.3284. Comprehensive review of the latest osteoporosis treatments: https://www.scirp.org/journal/paperinformation.aspx?paperid=116609. There is no evidence that supplementing calcium or vitamin D above the recommended helps with bone mass in post-menopause women, and except for that one study, nothing on building bone through exercise. I have also been watching oestrogen topics, and estradiol for bone integrity through early menopause seems to be recommended by many organisations now. How long this treatment should continue, and the safety of continuing treatment begun in early menopause past age ~60 is disputed; it would be great to get info on that as I am 62 and want to continue. Recently, studies have revised the oral vs. transdermal debate to conclude there is no risk difference: https://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/wk/gme/2022/00000029/00000007/art00004

Where do other mammals get their calcium?

Regarding BMD, we're told that we should consume dairy to calcium. No other mammal consumes dairy after it has been weaned. How do other mammals maintain BMD without consuming dairy? Also, approximately 2/3 of the earth's population is lactose intolerant, so how are all these people getting their calcium?

Osteostrong

You didn't mention Osteostrrong (https://osteostrong.me/) in the AMA about BMD. Any thoughts or experience with this strategy for increasing BMD?

Bone Heath and HRT

Hi Peter & team, I'm a new member who joined because of your bone health episode. Thank you for everything you do, your diligence and your candour....So refreshing. And sincere apologies for the long text here but context is relevant. So I'm a female in her mid 40s with a family history of severe osteoporosis. Also a former pro swimmer who danced intensely after that for a few yrs. Mostly do the right stuff - raw food diet last 20yrs, fast 14-16hrs a day, workout fasted, train/move 2-3hrs a day and have not eaten anything sweet or processed (aside from tons of fruit) the last 15yrs when I felt a metabolism shift. BMI is about 18/19. Had a hip resurfaced about 4yrs ago - started moving day of the op have probably never taken a day off training since I'm about 12. Went through menopause and dramatic life events early this yr and have noticed getting increasingly tired and limited in terms of what I can do. Really depressing after identity pegged to the opposite. Anyway the question is - can I do anything else aside from HRT (completely intolerant to progesterone) to increase Oestrogen levels aside from soy products & Omega 3? Thank you
