Blood Glucose during sleep

I have a CGM and an Oura ring. I just started metformin about 2 weeks ago. I have these events at 3 to 4 in the morning where my RHR goes from 45ish to 65ish suddenly, then drops to about 55ish. My HRV goes from high/random to low and invariable from that point forward. I see that my blood glucose has these correlated events, dropping from a steady state of 90ish down to 75, then pops back up. I thought I was maybe getting startled during sleep, but now that this has happened 5 times in the last 10 days, I’m just mystified. Any thoughts on what could be going on? Not sure what the stimulus is that leads to these conditions. Million variables here…

Essential Amino Acids (EAAs)

Hello Peter and colleagues, On your recent podcast with Layne Norton, protein was discussed in detail. BCAAs were discussed and seem to not have much benefit if you are getting quality protein. My question is about Essential Amino Acids (EAAs) as taken as a supplement. I've read/heard that they can be used to protect against muscle loss during a fast (although would "break" a fast in many ways besides calorie restriction) as well as in endurance activities. What are your thoughts and is there any reason one would supplement with an EAA supplement for performance, health, etc.?

barre/HIIT/scult/buzzword exercise classes

Hello Peter and Colleagues, I am a 24 year old male that mostly does zone 2 cardio, a bit of zone 5, and resistance training every week. Many of the females in my life (mom, fiancée, and friends) like go to exercise classes under the names of barre/HIIT/scult/buzzword. These classes have most but not all of the following characteristics: .5-1 hr, standing in one place, light weight dumbbells, high reps (probably 15-50), high intensity intervals (of different movements with the weight), heated studio, an instructor leading the workout and "motivating" the participants. What is the efficacy of workouts like these? Could these workouts be too much high intensity and not enough stimulus to build/maintain strength and muscle? Notes: My bias for exercise is that zone 2 cardio with a small amount of zone 5 as well as 2-3 resistance training workouts each week is a good recipe for health and longevity. I recognize a big factor for many of the people going to these workouts is that they really enjoy them and that in itself can be a big reason to keep doing them. I have gone to one of these workouts and by no means am I saying they are easy, in fact, it sucked a lot. But doesn't change my thoughts that you could better spend your time exercising in a different way. Thank you,

Sarah Hallberg

Amazing human she was and your interview was brilliant. I've listened twice to soak it all in. I am wondering if she was tested for Li-fraumeni syndrome? Because she did everything right in terms of health I ask. This typically shows up as breast cancer but it can be other cancers correct? Thinking about her children with this as well. Thanks for listening. Thank you for your work.

Protein recommendations vs. "normal" GFR decline in aging

Hey Peter - serious love what you are doing! I am interested in how your daily protein intake recommendation might moderate for otherwise fit-for-age >65-year-olds with a technical diagnosis of CKD, asymptomatic at G1-3, meaning eGFR still >30. There is a lot of consideration in the literature for balancing CVD risk and kidney function but not so much for other aspects of healthy aging like muscle maintenance. Thanks!
