Thalassemia trait and phenotypic expression

I'd like to know if your thoughts on if there is any phenotypic expression to the thalassemia trait other than a mild microcytic anemia? Do you believe it had had any perceptible effect on your endurance? I'd also like to hear your thoughts on studies that show a cardiovascular protective effect (stroke,MI and hypertension) of males that carry the trait. I have varying opinions on this subject. Thanks.

Zone 2 monitoring HR vs Lactate numbers

Hi, My lactate is 1.8 Mmol/L straight after work out (so, per PA principles ideal) but HR is very high over 160 for majority of the run. I am 44 age old. What should I make of those numbers in the context of my goal work out in Zone 2?

Thalassemia trait and cardiovascular protection

Given that I have the beta thalllasemia trait, I'd like to hear your thoughts on a cardiovascular benefit that has been highlighted in prior studies (reductions in cva, MI and hypertension)? Have you noticed any effects on your endurance with this trait? I always understood that the microcytic anemia was compensated for by increased EPO and more red blood cells. Thanks!
