Physiology in Fast Twitch Muscle Fibers

I love the two podcasts with Iñigo regarding zone 2 training. I just heard about ways to improve mitochondria in the type II (fast twitch) muscle fibers. Are there benefits to having a well trained mitochondria in type II fibers vs type II? Are there specific ways to train these? Is it worth developing mitochondria in the type II fibers? Thanks!

Do we really need sodium to rehydrate while exercising?

Humans seem pretty good at storing what we need for long periods of privation. We can operate effectively without eating carbs frequently, or at all. I'm curious if the body stores and releases sodium as needed (analogous to what it does with glycogen for energy).

Heavy Bag Training

Hi Peter, What’s your opinion of doing rounds on a heavy bag? Either boxing or kickboxing. Are there downsides/dangers to hitting a heavy bag? Or is it just that it’s the opposite of a zone 2 workout? I ask because my husband and I find it to be a lot of fun, and you mentioned that you used to be into boxing, but then I started wondering if there was a good reason why I don’t hear about you doing that anymore. We do Bas Rutten’s tapes where he calls out combinations in a Dutch accent. Great fun. By the way, I love your podcast. The latest COVID ones in particular were extremely informative – especially in comparison to what I get from the Canadian press. Let me know what you think when you get a chance. Thanks,

Lp(a) and Statins

Statins raise Lp(a) while lowering ApoB and LDLc. This would seem to indicate that LDLc production may put a "governer" on Lp(a) production. First, is there data to support statin use in the setting of Lp(a), or is the recommendation based on the biological plausibility of lowering what we can lower to mitigate the risks we can control? Secondly, what is more dangerous, high Lp(a) and the oxidative phospholipid it contains or high ApoB? Thank you
