Hi Peter, I appreciate the effort behind your practice, podcast, and website. I have two questions, both related to swimming. (1) Is there any good research on how cool/cold water swimming affects the body, including metabolism? There have been some recent studies on the subject but none of them seemed particularly robust or sufficiently large enough for me to draw any conclusions. (2) What is the state of the evidence about which dryland/weight/calisthentic/etc. training optimizes performance for endurance (e.g. long distance) swimmers? Do you have personal thoughts on best practices for out of water training? Thank you.
I'm a young (20s) medical student who particularly loved the AMA examining the impact of cardiovascular training and strength training on long term health. I've recently been turned on to bouldering as a form of exercise and am in love with how it's not only cardio and strength intensive but also a mental challenge. On the other hand, there is limited information regarding its impact on long term joint health and other health metrics. I think it would be incredibly interesting to hear more on the subject of how bouldering can impact long term health, both for the good and the bad.
