You often reference the importance of cholesterol analysis and also neurodegeneration risk factors. High HDL levels are a known risk factor for progression of AMD (a neurodegenerative disease), as shown by numerous studies and confirmed by Dr Ron Krauss. Can you address the implications of this risk and lifestyle strategies to optimize (and perhaps lower) high HDL? Not drinking alcohol is the only one I have come up with.
Are there any protocols or changes you would make after experiencing and recovering from a mild traumatic brain injury? I believe you once mentioned your brother suffered a TBI in a biking accident. I was in a similar situation a year ago and have recovered with no noticeable long term symptoms. But is there anything you would change or keep an eye on after knowing a patient had head trauma?
Loved the show dealing with overtraining. I run 30k/wk religiously and like to add cycling in the summer. Is it safe (not harmful) to add 180k of cycling to the regimen if the intensity is kept reasonable? I did experience some very frequent PVC's for 5 weeks which resolved abruptly-magnesium may have helped that @ 800mg a day. Did you imply that you take "4" hundred mg/day or is it 4g?
Hi Peter and Bob, I was wondering if you could do a deep dive - "All things ovarian hormones" - on HRT for menopausal women. Dr. Roberta Brinton has promising work looking at HRT for Alzheimer's Disease (AD) prevention. I would love to hear your thoughts on using things like statins in men versus women in regards to AD. I would also love to hear what you think about potential hormonal therapeutics for AD such as Brexnanolone. These topics aren't very well covered in previous episodes. Thanks!
