Arthritis & Healthspan

I’ve gotten a lot out of your podcast and AMAs — thanks for the great value you bring to me and so many! I recently turned 50 and my father (in his late 70s) suffers from osteoarthritis in most of his joints. I’ve combed your library and don’t find much on that topic. Is there anything you can discuss in terms of treatment, prevention, supplements, etc.? Glucosamine seems to be the only supplement on offer, but the research doesn’t seem to support it as a very viable preventative strategy. Thanks again!

Is Zone 2 really a "zone"? And how can we find (or approximate) it, without measuring lactate?

2 quick questions on Zone 2 (2QQZ2). 1. The nomenclature suggests Zone 2 is, in fact, a zone - or range. Yet, when I've heard it discussed in your podcasts, it seems to always be discussed as a point, or limit, or threshold, above which the body begins to utilize different energy systems and so forth.... Is Zone 2 actually a zone, or range? And if so, how would one determine not only the upper limit of the range, but also the lower limit? (And if not, would it be better to describe it as "Point 2" or "Threshold 2" or some other name?) 2. For many of us, measuring lactate simply ain't gonna happen. So we're looking for another way to determine what our Zone 2 is. I've heard you mention that the "talk test" can be used as a crude proxy. Isn't there any other proxy that is at least as good as, or better than, the talk test for determining Zone 2? Phil Maffetone wants us to use HR - which seems attractive because it's so easy to measure (esp compared to lactate), especially with the current prevalence of wearables. But his method also seems crude, not precise. Recently, I've seen some discussion of using HRV, along with something called DFA Alpha-1, to back into determining Zone 2 (much of this thinking seems to originate from someone named Marco Altini) - have you reviewed, and can you comment on that as an approach to figuring out Z2? So many of us now use wearables, and we are receiving a constant stream data on HR, HRV, and other metrics - it would be so extremely helpful if we could devise a method for determining Z2 that relied on this readily available data, instead of the comparatively hyper-intensive method of measuring lactate. Thank you!

Recovery Contract

In conversation with Hugh Jackman, you mentioned writing a recovery contract in 2020. Would you elaborate on the motivating circumstance, the nature of the contract and share some details? For my own family healing situation I am curious how your considerably detailed and thoughtful approach to everything applies to this subject.

Zone 2 vs Zone 3 Training

I know the topic of Zone 2 training has been discussed extensively already, but I'm still unsure of why Zone 2 training is more important for longevity than Zone 3 training. I know Zone 2 training is important to improve "mitochondrial health" but why don't we achieve these same benefits with Zone 3 training, and why is "mitochondrial health" in particular so important for longevity.

Worthy Drs! Where to find?

About three years ago, you were getting a list together on Drs that were up to your standard. I live in Manhattan and I STILL have trouble finding anyone. Have dropped about $25-30000 with functional medicine specialists, who do this test or that, but I have no idea where to turn. Are we any wiser now? Signed exhausted and broke
