Can you explain cardiac drift? I do regular 5k runs and after the initial heart rate ramp, it levels off, but continues a slow secular ramp up over the course of the run. My estimate would be that I am running above my zone 2, but I haven't done the necessary testing to be sure. I've read that the cardiac drift is due to increasing body temperature. I wonder what your thoughts are on this? Is it possible to maintain a steady HR throughout a longer workout? Assume I am maintaining constant effort / pace.
