ME/CFS/IDS

I have been diagnosed with this disorder. I am told that Covid-19 " Long Haulers" are being classified with this in some fashion. If it is post-viral, then I probably got it from H1N1. It took 5 years before the diagnosis was made.I saw many physicians who blew me off. I am a retired Interventional Radiologist, Ironman finisher, and successful entrepreneur who is now often bedridden and sick as hell. I would love to see your team research this and find an expert with whom to podcast.

Managing Arthritis or Possible Treatments for Longevity

What are the possible treatments for improving or slowing the worsening of Arthritis (especially hand/knuckle). Previous episodes have mentioned a few possibilities (e.g. Fung and long term fasting 5+day) as a maybe something if you believe the FMD stuff). The octagenarian olympics also focuses on muscular strength to do specific things, but arthritis might outweight some of these, unless the mobility and strength prescriptions offset, slow, or cancel arthritis - but you haven't made that claim yet - though if you would, i could perhaps get my Mother in-law to do some of these things!

Cellular senescence, aging and senolytics

In the last few years, the emerging science of cellular senescence, its links to many aging-related processes, and the promise of senolytic therapies to 'reverse' these processes has gained a lot of scientific attention. There are currently a handful of studies being done on approved and pre-clinical drugs and nutraceuticals (e.g., fisetin) to evaluate their potential in clearing senescent cells in aged humans. What are your thoughts on this, and on the leading approved senolytic candidates (dasatinib, quercetin, and fisetin)?

Fasting and elevated liver enzymes

I have heard that fasting - particularly multi-day fasts - can elevate liver biomarkers such as serum ALT, AST and bilirubin beyond the upper limit of normal. Does this imply that fasting is an acute stressor of the liver? Should fasting be avoided in people with certain types of liver disease (e.g. those recovering from hepatitis, alcohol abuse or other liver injury)? If so, this is not widely known, as the pop-science seems to portray fasting as a cure-all method of 'detox'.

Zone 2 Deep Dive Follow up

Dear Peter and Bob, I very much enjoyed AMA #19 on Zone 2 training. I had some follow up questions on this. What metric(s) do you think most closely tracks with lactate levels for Zone 2? Heart rate? Do you think MAF number works? (Along these lines, how much does your rate vary when you train a constant power output?) FTP Zone 2 or 3? I have been using the ‘hated’ Peloton bike for my primary aerobic training. It was invaluable for recovery from 2 hip replacements in early 2019. I am a 62-year-old male. So, my MAF target is 118 bpm. To maintain a 118 HR I need to ride at an FTP high zone 2 to low zone 3, Avg output of ~150 watts. Peter mentioned he also does a Zone 5 training. Can you describe what this entails? Target lactate? Time? Frequency? Maybe an AMA deep dive into Zone 5 and HIIT training.
