Zone 2 Workouts - Fasting

When you say best to do Zone2 workout after fasting, such as in the morning, does this include avoiding gel packs / carb powders and the like? Many thanks.

Zone 2 hr band too small?

I’m 40 and my max hr is estimated to be 180 and so as a conditioned athlete in your guide it says zone to be 78-80% and so this equates to a range of just 140.4 - 144. Great guide by the way!! Super helpful. So my question is really how realistic is this? I mean on the bike I am drifting over this a bit and under constantly. I’m on an indoor stationary bike too. Is it just practise to hold more steady or should I allow more room in the hr band? Otherwise I feel the workout is kind of too focused on keeping in this range. Thanks

meat cognitive dissonance

Just read the merry-go-round post regarding T2D and meat eating. Peter, from what I understand invests in and eats a ton of processed meat... and this post doesn't seemingly 'adjust' for any cognitive dissonance this may be generating. The concluding thought: "While there may be cultural, environmental, or religious reasons why certain individuals might choose to abstain from meat consumption, we have yet to see any meaningful evidence to support adding “health” to that list." seems to me to just be a ridiculous expansion of this studies conclusion. Health is about choosing to live purposely with the intent of continuously expanding one's wellness. The meat that most people eat is factory-farmed garbage, and choosing to abstain from meat is in fact a route to no longer eating the garbage, but more than that, it is a step into eating on purpose. It takes waking up, every single day, to eating on purpose in order to abstain from meat in our society, that that leads to health. Why not start talking about why eating meat is actually bad for us in this culture because of the kind and frequency of meat that this implies - at the population level?

TRT Specifics. considerations

Hi Peter, You have provided a lot of great information on TRT and related issues. As a result of one of your Urologist guests, I am now on low dose 5mg Cialis (blood pressure benefit, venous leakage benefit and perhaps BPH benefit - certainly more logical than taking flowmax & Viagra brake & accelerator approach). At 56, my Testosterone is at the low end of the range. While I am fit in both the strength and VO2 senses of the world, find it really hard to get back below 20% body fat, even with 3,000 calorie a day time routines (but had been circa 8-12% in teens and at College). I feel like lack of T has made this much harder. My concern is that testosterone is associated with prostate growth (not concerned about cancer per se after various guests), I have an enlarged prostate already, so it would be logical to take Finasteride to stop this effect, but then the potential impotence 10-15% probability when go off it sounds dire. One guest (maybe the weightlifeter steroid expert guy) basically stating that if you were in your 50's with low testosterone he would definately do TRT - majority of risks gone by then. My take after all the content I have seen is that one would do some TRT and if/when the prostate symptoms became bad enough, one would do the HoLep/ inner part of prostate removal. Also on the specifics of TRT administration, the main problem with Gel seemed to be the lack of clarity of the dosage received - but if you hate needles and are just looking for a meaningful lift (but could be sub-optimal in getting to optimal level), is it that bad an option? It is interesting to hear you framing the Ozympic risk for yourself, versus say Rapamycin where it seems not much is known on long term administration. I feel like you started the TRT framing using yourself, but never followed through with the full conclusions - did you go on, what sort of dosing, what sort of results, what have you seen with your patients that has informed your choice/modified what you are doing. I feel like I have listened to and read a lot of material you have provided, but still do not have a great decision tree. As stated above, my version would be will live be better before 80 if I do some TRT - seems like from a muscle, bone, body fat & strength perspective yes, main downside might be further prostate growth, but that will happen anyway, so may bring forward a HoLep op. Anyway, I feel like your consulting background helps, so for these sort of things, please lean in.

Mold & Mycotoxins

I've recently had a couple clients bring their mycotoxin test results back from a wellness lab that shows certain mycotoxins on the high end of the range. I feel its just a way for these companies to sell their supplements and/or promote a product. I haven't heard you talk about "mold" in the body or quality research on molds and mycotoxins. Is this something you would bring up in a podcast?
