Should a 30 year old consider further testing (CAC) and possibly a statin for a total cholesterol of 274, HDL of 54, LDL of 200 and triglyceride of 114? Weight is WNL, and exercises (runny, erg machine, weights) 3 times a week. Diet includes 12-16 eggs a week, minimal red meat, and liberal use of olive oil.
What does the latest research say about being overweight despite intense sporting activity? I’m an ultra runner, logging 100km a week, but at 1.82m and 94kg, I’m carrying a beer belly. My fitness level is high, and I’ve tried various diets with both traditional and specialized sport nutritionists. Yet, despite my efforts, I remain overweight. I do have a sweet tooth, but my overall diet should not lead to my current weight given my activity level. I suspect I might be overlooking something critical. Could it be related to my gut microbiome? Genetics? Are there specific tests I should consider? I’m also a CEO of two companies, so my stress levels are high, which might be a contributing factor. Despite my intense sports routine, I’m far from being a professional athlete, so I’m unsure if traditional sports advice fully applies to me. I’m eager to hear from specialists in this field or anyone with similar experiences. I believe many others would benefit from an updated overview of the latest research on this issue. Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!
