Female muscle gain

Most episodes that have discussed females gaining muscle mass- also note fat loss. What is the ideal diet for a female with low/normal body fat trying to gain muscle but NOT lose much fat. Increase mostly protein calories? I struggle to eat more, but love peanut butter and would happily switch to all full fat dairy. But is increasing calories from just fat a good way to do it? (If protein is adequate at 1.6g/kg)
